it wiggles and giggles its way through the clouds
transporting riders, colorful and loud
we travel the heavens our contrails of gold
destined for miraculous cities we’re told
we’ll be dropping anchor; recharge this machine
so the gaggles can flock to the site just to glean
our magnificient flyer, our bat wing-ed prize
with its air churning propeller so grand in its size
we’ll check all our guages and knobbies and such
pay special attention to the patches (my touch!)
once filling and fluffing and fussing is done
we’ll head back to heaven to continue our run
keel straight and steady, no limits have we
starlight our guide, the galaxy our sea
so keep your eyes peeled, look up now and then
if you missed us this go round, we’ll be back again
for steampunk is flying from here and from there
if a ride you are wanting, put hands in the air
we’ll drop you a ladder to climb; come aboard
the fare for the trip nothing more than your word
that you’ll enter this vessel from earth moon or mars
knowing we headed for far away stars
and need all the laughter and mirth you can muster
it’s what keeps us flying…so go on and bluster
there are places to go and new species to be seen
